The straight answer

Our service area around The Colony, TX takes in 19 north DFW towns and communities across Denton, Collin, Dallas and Tarrant Counties, all within about a 30-minute drive. Each city has its own permit office and code edition, so the town pages linked below spell out what changes when you cross a city line.

Service Locations

The Colony is home base, and these five cities get the deepest coverage on our site. Texas cities all enforce the International Residential Code, but each one adopts its own edition and amendments:

  • Frisco runs the 2024 IRC with amendments, effective March 1, 2026. Houston Black clay was the most common soil at the NRCS sample points.
  • Plano runs the 2024 IRC, effective August 1, 2025, and Houston Black turned up at 20 of 30 sample points.
  • Allen runs the 2024 IRC, effective September 26, 2026, with Houston Black at 18 of 30 points.
  • Carrollton runs the 2024 IRC, effective September 1, 2025. Six of its 30 sample points landed in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area.
  • Lewisville still lists the 2021 IRC, so a heated slab there needs a 10-mil vapor retarder instead of the 2024 edition's 6-mil.

Our north Dallas suburbs permit guide puts these offices side by side.

Lake Towns and Denton County Communities in Our Service Area Around The Colony

Both the ground and the paperwork shift around Lewisville Lake. In Little Elm, 11 of 30 sample points landed on water and 14 in a flood hazard zone. Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek and Oak Point sit on sandier ground that sampled low for shrink-swell, though FEMA's map shows a Lewisville Lake flowage easement area at some Lake Dallas and Oak Point sample points. Lakewood Village sampled Ferris clay at 15 of 30 points. Hackberry sampled very high shrink-swell at 28 of 30 points, and Hebron at 25 of 30.

Savannah and Paloma Creek are unincorporated Census communities, so permits come from Denton County Development Services instead of a city. The county wants a development permit for any improvement to a property in its jurisdiction, and a Right-of-Way Use permit for work along a county-maintained road.

South and West: Coppell, Farmers Branch, Addison, Grapevine, Prosper

Heading toward Dallas, Coppell and Farmers Branch are in Dallas County, and Farmers Branch sampled Houston Black clay at 14 of 30 points. Addison stands apart, with Stephen soils over shallow chalk at 17 of 30 points, so digging and base work differ from deep-clay towns. Grapevine is our Tarrant County town, where 9 of 30 sample points fell in a flood hazard zone. North of Frisco, Prosper works from the 2021 IRC with local amendments and sampled Houston Black at 12 of 30 points.

Common Questions

Who issues concrete permits in Savannah and Paloma Creek?
Both are unincorporated Census communities in Denton County, so Denton County Development Services issues permits, not a city. The county says any improvement to a property in its jurisdiction needs a development permit, applications run through its Civic Access portal, and work along a county-maintained road needs a Right-of-Way Use permit.
Does the building code change between The Colony and Lewisville?
Yes. The Colony adopted the 2024 IRC in 2025, while Lewisville Building Services lists the 2021 IRC. You can see one difference under a heated slab: the 2021 edition calls for a 10-mil vapor retarder meeting ASTM E1745 Class A, and the 2024 edition calls for 6-mil. Both editions exempt outdoor driveways and patios.
Is the ground any easier on the west side of Lewisville Lake?
In our soil samples, yes. NRCS sample points in Hickory Creek, Oak Point and Lake Dallas came back low for shrink-swell, while Hackberry and Hebron sampled very high. Water is the trade-off, since Lake Dallas had 14 of 30 points in a flood hazard zone. Check your own address on the FEMA flood map before you plan.

  • This company is one of the most trusted when it comes to finishing on time and top quality work! I would recommend going with The Colony Concrete company.

  • We moved to The Colony last year and the back patio was too small to even fit a table. I wanted it bigger and stamped but had no clue what pattern would look right with our brick. Miguel came out with a binder of samples and actually held a couple of them up against the house so I could see. He never pushed the most expensive one, he even talked me out of a border I wanted because he said it would crack along the seam with our clay soil. Whenever I texted him a question he got back to me the same day, usually within the hour. His crew started at 7 both mornings and the guys were friendly, one of them even helped my husband move the smoker out of the way. Patio is huge now and the color goes perfect with the brick. We finally had the whole family over for my son's birthday back there.

  • Wanted the front walk replaced and a small landing at the bottom of the porch steps. Asked around my neighborhood who people use for a concrete contractor in The Colony and this name came up more than once. During the quote they brought up drainage on their own, explained how theyd pitch it so water runs toward the yard instead of back at the foundation. Old slab used to pool every time it rained. New one sheds water exactly how they said. Detail on the step landing is clean, no gaps

  • new driveway came out clean and even, they were done in a day and hauled off all the old broken concrete. fair price and no headaches

  • Was nervous after a bad experience with another company but these guys were great. Poured our lot fast and it looks clean. No complaints at all
    Jordon · Google review · Oct 2026
  • showed up exactly when they said they would every single day, which after dealing with two flaky contractors before them was a relief. big 40x60 slab for a metal building, north texas clay so i was worried but they went deep on the base. every text i sent got answered same day. flat, no cracks after a full summer

  • Had our driveway and patio redone in the spring. Finding someone in The Colony who actually shows up when they say they will felt like the hard part. We struck out with two other outfits first. Called on a Wednesday, quote by Friday, crew started Monday. On time every day. They told us to clear out and let them work, which was a relief. The prep was thorough, which I gather is where most concrete problems start. Six months in, no cracks, and water runs off instead of pooling by the garage. The guy running the crew told us to seal it before summer and explained why. Felt like he cared whether it lasted. Price was in line with the other quotes, maybe a hair under. We’re talking about extending the patio next year and I’d call them again.

  • Colony Concrete Co replaced my old pavers with fresh concrete - best decision ever! They did my patio and wrapped new sidewalks around the whole house. No more wobbly, weed-filled pavers! Their crew tore everything out, prepped it right, and poured beautiful new concrete with a clean brushed finish. Super happy with how it all flows together now. Quality concrete work at a fair price here in The Colony TX!

  • I finally called Colony Concrete Co about my busted driveway in The Colony TX and I'm so glad I did! When I needed concrete driveway replacement, their team gave me a straight quote. I watched them transform my old cracked concrete into a beautiful new driveway. I love how they handled my entire concrete installation - from tearing out the old stuff to giving me that perfect brushed finish I wanted. I'm seriously impressed with how they graded my driveway for perfect drainage. I compared concrete companies all over DFW, and I definitely picked the right concrete contractor. I know I wasn't their cheapest quote for driveway construction, but I got exactly what I paid for - quality concrete work that'll last. Now I've got neighbors asking me who did my concrete pouring! If you're looking at concrete services in The Colony area, I 100% recommend these pros. I couldn't be happier with my new concrete driveway!
